Manos de Christo

As the stores are filling up their shelves full of goodies that littles might love to see under the tree on Christmas morning our Church turns it's focus onto a huge Church wide mission project to fill thousands of boxes of Christmas presents for those in need. Every year for the past 6 years that we've lived here, boxes are passed out in the fall to fill up and bring back. Now I'll admit that some years life just gets in the way and we haven't been able to fill up a box but this year wasn't that year. Abby and Micah heard about it in Sunday school and Micah heard about it in preschool and there was no way that these two were going to let me forget about filling up a box. These Manos de Christo boxes head to orphanages as well as to children in need in our own city.

Of course the day that the boxes were going to be walked into 'big' Church fell onto a very busy weekend and we ended up at Target bright and early Sunday morning. Abby decided she wanted to fill a box for a little girl so we decided as a family to fill our box for a 2-3 year old girl.

Abby, Micah and Alexis had fun picking out what they thought a little girl would like. We had to keep in mind that it all needed to fit into the shoebox as we followed down the list of things to include in the box.
They really enjoyed picking out the toy to go in the box for the little girl as well as some clothes and books for her.
Then we checked out and headed to pack up our box in the car before heading to Church.

While we did put this together last minute, the littles really enjoyed picking out presents for another little girl. I enjoyed this chance to share with our littles about giving to others. Especially since it was my birthday weekend and with Christmas coming up it's often about what we want. This was a nice way to turn our thoughts to giving to someone else.

When we arrived at Church, Micah and Abby both were so excited about the box they were fighting about who would be able to carry it in. Micah was able to carry it into the building and Abby took it into her class.

During the service Abby and all the other elementary school aged kids delivered boxes to the stage and sang a song in front of the Church.

It was a wonderful service project to be able to include the littles in! Maybe next year we'll be able to spend a little more time putting together the boxes at home and wrapping/decorating it than we did this year but I'm so happy we were at least able to put our box together to bring it.
