insta+lately

What a past week + it's been. The Thursday before Thanksgiving break, Lexie had a well check, then she ran a slight fever the next day. The next day after that, the first day of Thanksgiving break, Abby woke up sick. Thus started the cold that won't leave through our family taking out everyone. First Abby, then Micah, mommy, daddy and finally now Lexie. So here's our Thanksgiving break in instagrams because  being sick on Thanksgiving means the 'real' 'big girl' camera didn't come out to play.
Micah gave Lexie her first driving lesson at HEB while we got our Thanksgiving grocery shopping on. She had a blast sitting in the buggy like a big girl instead of being worn in the carrier by mommy.
  • Back on my birthday weekend, Beau wrecked his truck and we've had to get him a new car which isn't a fun as it sounds like it should be finding the right car for the right price. So we spent lots of time on car lots while he test drove and looked at various cars. We found this pretty butterfly on one of them.
  • Lexie was a happy camper on Thanksgiving. I love this sweet dress. Is it acceptable to wear turkeys after Thanksgiving? I am regretting that I didn't take more pictures of her in it.

  • Being sick means family quiet time turned into everyone napped. It made bedtime harder but it was much needed for everyone to get some rest to feel better.

  • My parents (and brother) braved our germs to come have Thanksgiving with us. We did go out on Black Friday to Home Depot for Poinsettias and a few screws to put hardware back on the dresser they refinished for Micah.
  • Black Friday also meant game day! Pops, Gigi and Beau all had on very similar shirts.

  • Family movie night with cozy blankets.
  • Micah finally got a much needed haircut. He looks so handsome and like a little boy!

  • This week I've been working on a little Christmas crafting and decorating. I'm so excited about my little project. Will shared the completed project once I'm done decorating - probably on Monday. :)
  • My parents also refinished my high chair from when I was a baby that was living at my grandparents house. It's so cute! It will make a great first birthday accent. I can't believe I just said first birthday. It's totally right around the corner now.

Happy Thanksgiving

I am thankful that even while the kids and I have been under the weather with miserable colds since last weekend (taking turns) that normally I have very healthy children. Thankful for my husband who works so hard for us. For family to spend the day with.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Yes I'm sadly leaving a picture of Abby out, she wasn't with us this day and hasn't been feeling well.

our mini-golf family day

Last Saturday we had a fun family afternoon. After swinging through Canes (hey, it was on the way ok? Plus we had free boxes and kids meals we used) we head to Malibu Grand Prix to play mini-golf, bumper boats and ride the go-carts. Well at least for those tall enough to enjoy the latter two.

We started with a round of mini-golf. Micah and Abby were very excited. They remembered playing when we went to Lake Conroe with my parents. Daddy tried to help Micah with his swing... but Micah wanted to do it himself instead. Micah doing it himself rarely goes over 4 strokes. He tries to hit it several times, then carries it close to the hole and taps it in. He's not done until it's fully in the hole.

Abby, Micah and Alexis were very patient and enjoyed watching as we all took our turns. We did play with a 4 stroke maximum (for Beau and I) so that they wouldn't have to wait too long.
Next up was the bumper boats. Micah was super bummed he wasn't tall enough but he enjoyed watching Abby and Daddy in the boats. It hadn't dawned on me that bumper boats would have water cannons but it was quite amusing to watch especially when I saw that. I'm thankful that the weather was just perfect to enjoy being outside but not too cold that being wet was something to be upset about.
Daddy was a good sport and took most of the spray, but you can see Abby's enjoying herself here.
Uh oh... looks like everyone is gonna get wet now!
 My sweet, wet, Abby.
After the bumper boats we walked over the go karts but they were too fast and noisy for Abby's liking and our time was limited as I had to be at Church that evening so it was either go karts or spending some time in the arcade. The arcade won the vote. I would have loved to try out the go karts but Abby didn't want to go and Micah again wasn't tall enough (grow Micah grow!) so that made the vote easily in the arcade's favor. Plus Daddy really likes the arcade games. I can't say I mind playing skeeball too much.

Daddy and Abby rocked it at this game where you dropped tokens in.... it takes longer than one might think for 200 tickets to come out of the machine. They just kept coming and coming....
So if you are sitting around your house today wondering what to do with the kids out of school all week, why not go play some mini-golf, bumper boats or race each other in the go-karts at Malibu Grand Prix?  Go have some family fun and avoid the crowds at the grocery stores and malls.

I think we'll be going back. Beau already wants to go back for a date night to play more mini-golf and see if he can beat me. I don't think he can. He might be able to out play me in a real round of golf (as I don't play at all) but I've got him in mini-golf.

Cane's in town

Earlier this month, something we've been waiting for, finally opened in San Antonio. Well at least one we could go to. See we had one in town but it was in the airport... behind security in Terminal A. A place you can't get to unless you have a plane ticket and a plane departing from Terminal A. Not too funny to have one in town but you can't eat there. So finally a Cane's opened in town... and not only that but actually pretty close to us!

Abby got introduced to it when they opened on near my parents. She loves it because of the mascot. Raisin Cane... the dog.

This of course is going to be very dangerous. See Cane's started in Baton Rouge, their first location was right off the LSU campus, near the BCM and my hubs dorm and it was open ridiculously late. So it quickly became a good hangout place. I think it accounted for maybe 10 of the hubs freshman 15 and maybe 5 of mine.
Lexie approves of the never frozen, fresh chicken. I agree it's pretty tasty. They specialize in chicken fingers. They do have a sandwich... of course it has chicken fingers on it. I've never once had Cane's that I can remember where my chicken wasn't super hot and fresh. We always joke that how can a restaurant that only has one option take so long but it's because it's always fresh.
Daddy hoarded all the Cane's sauce. Part of what makes this so tasty to him. Micah wanted ketchup anyway so he wasn't too upset.
Yup... we'll be back.

Fiesta Farms

If you are looking for a fun fall family activity for your family then you might want to check out Fiesta Farms. My kids are all about animals so I think this is something they'll really enjoy.

Fiesta Farm is all about kids with free pony rides, play areas, many petting zoo animals and a hay ride.  We are open all year round and as well as open to walk-ins, we host great birthday parties both here and at your location.  Our large heated barns are great for inclement weather and our many shade trees keep us cooler in summer.  Nearby we offer 1 hour guided horseback rides for just $35 per horse.  Kids can be accommodated, too!  For a great day out, come to Fiesta Farm, open daily and year-round!

Fiesta Farms has a great deal to save you money on your admission, trail ride or birthday party through January.

insta-lately (a day late) + a winner

Busy seems to be an understatement for our week this past week. The hubs got in a little fender bender on my birthday weekend at the end of October. His truck was older and several panels were damaged so it was totaled. So this week has been car shopping week which we quickly learned is not as fun as it sounds. On top of that our rental car time was up on Tuesday so we've been a one car family while car shopping. I think we've finally found him a car but they need to service and detail it so I'll be carless this weekend until it's ready. Car shopping + other activities + the hubs with a week off work while they remodel at his work = little time for blogging so I'm a day late on this insta-latley link up.
  •  Saturday night after Bible class, our dear Bibleland Buddies director, fed us all a spaghetti dinner and we had a movie set up in the amphitheater. Micah told me at least 3 times how tasty and yummy the spaghetti was. Alexis thoroughly enjoyed a piece of garlic bread and when she got fidgety (because it was past bedtime) she thought it would be a good facial and rubed the bread she was holding all over her and my face. Ha!
  • Micah and I enjoyed a fun morning playing with his toy story toys while Lexie napped. I was holding his T-Rex in the air to "talk" to his Buzz and Micah corrected me that dinosaurs can't fly but that dragons could (and breathe fire) as does Superman and Spiderman (because they have capes in case you were wondering.) I love my sweet little guy!

  • With car shopping we've spent more time than usual in the car, especially in the afternoon around naptime for Lexie. This means Micah's also had a car nap 3 out of the last 4 days. That's a lot for my little guy who hasn't napped in the past 6 months or so.

  • I'm thrilled that Lexie is still small enough that she gets to wear Abby's 3-6 month red polka dot jacket at least a couple times before she outgrows it. I love this little jacket. Thankful that fall has finally decided to come to Texas.
  • Micah loved seeing the ducks this morning down at the Pearl. I loved exploring the Pearl and obviously didn't know what I was missing having not been there before today!

  • This morning, I took the little two up to meet a sweet friend I've meet through blogging for a balloon release to honor her friend's daughter who passed away. I'm so glad we got to go out and spend the morning with her and her younger two kids.
What have you been up to lately?

Also thanks to those who prayed for my sweet little niece Vivien. She's doing better with each day and hopefully going home isn't too far away at this point.

And finally I've randomly selected a winner for the Melissa and Doug toy giveaway. The winner has been e-mailed.

Meet Vivien

Our extended family is growing! My sister-in-law and her husband's newest addition to their family arrived last Monday, November 5th.

Miss Vivien had a little bit of fluid in her lungs so she had to go to the NICU and her white blood counts were much too high. She's had a whirlwind first not-even-a-week yet. The doctors are treating her infection and she's getting better. Her mama got to hold her for the first time in a couple days last night and she got her first bottle in a while this morning. My MIL sent this sweet picture of her out last night and I just love the sweet sweet look of adoration she's got for her mama in it.
She could still use some prayers that she quickly overcomes this infection and gets to go home soon. I know her mama and dad are probably getting anxious to get their whole family home with big brother Rusy and start adjusting to their 'new' normal as a family of 4.

I've wanted to post and share about my sweet new niece all week but didn't want to until I had her mama's permission and I didn't want to bug her about it before now. So now I get to share her with ya'll. I can't wait to we get to meet her in person. I think with the age gap between Lexie and Vivien they'd likely make for sweet little playmates in the future if we ever get to live closer.

Polar Express

Last year, my friend Wendy and her hubs took their little boys up to ride the Polar Express and I remember thinking what a fantastic memory that would make and how awesome an experience it sounded like it was. I started thinking about it again a few weeks ago as the holiday season is approaching and wondering if I dare make the trip up there. The kids are only little once and this seems like such a magical experience for them to have. I talked to my friend and she said her little boy who was the age Micah is now last year when he went talked about it forever. I think that cemented my desire to try and make the trip. Now convincing the hubs to go along with my little plan is taking a little more convincing. Then of course I need to do some serious shopping and decision making on what (matching/coordinating of course) holiday pjs the kids need. (I think I'm behind on this one!)
All Aboard! The Polar Express comes to life this holiday season as the Texas State Railroad rolls out of the station bound for the "North Pole!" Come early and climb aboard with your family to cozy-up and enjoy our festively-decorated vintage train cars. Dancing chefs deliver hot chocolate and a cookie to each guest to savor while music from the Polar Express movie plays en route to the North Pole. Make sure to have your tickets handy, because your conductor will be by shortly to punch each child's ticket. Before arriving at the North Pole, the iconic book, The Polar Express is read as your Chef turns the pages to share the beautiful illustrations in the original book. With the station far away, The Polar Express magically arrives at the outskirts of Santa's North Pole village, where Santa Claus himself and his elves joyously welcome the train! As you stay comfortably settled and warm in your seat, Santa and his helper elf board the train! During the return trip, Santa will greet each child with his signature holiday spirit and the first gift of Christmas: a bell cut from his sleigh. It is said that only children and those who still believe can actually hear the bell ring. Join in the singing as your Chef or Conductor lead Christmas caroling on the 30-minute return trip. For those wanting the magic to last or to do a little Christmas shopping, visit our gift shop in the station for special Polar Express gifts and merchandise. Oh, one last thing, children are encouraged to wear their PJ's; adults who still believe have been known to wear them, too! So, are you coming? All Aboard!
All Aboard the Polar Express is coming to the Texas State Railroad, visit https://www.texasstaterr.com/ or call 877-726-7245 to climb aboard.

Have you ever been on a Polar Express train ride? What did you think?

Disclosure: I was offered tickets for my family to ride the Polar Express in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

Alexis: 10 months

Lexie is such a smiley content little girl. She's definitely a busy little girl for sure! She's going to keep me on my toes. I had to rearrange because she was using the bouncy seat as a step stool to climb onto the coffee table. She was so proud of herself too! She loves her big siblings and wants to be with them, playing with them and their toys. Big kid toys are much better than baby toys - don't you know? She's tried to take a baby step here and there but no more than one step at a time yet before plopping down and crawling. She has mastered walking behind the walker though.
We had her 9 month check up.... at 10 months. She was 17 lbs 10 oz at her check up. She was meeting all her milestones on the checklist we went over. Still can wear her 6-9 month outfits but mostly in 12 month clothing at this point (mainly because of the weather and her 6-9 are summer clothes not good for fall!)

She flat out refuses to be fed anything that requires someone feeding it to your with a spoon (be it baby food, yogurt, applesauce, soup ect) but is content to eat any table food given to her most days. Loves baby mum-mums, puffs and especially yogurt melts.

Clay Casa

I'm not sure why but the holidays always tend to bring out my crafty, sentimental side. The holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas are always special with the time we get to spend with our family. Then we have the end of a year and each year my littles are a getting a little bigger. I want to freeze a little moment in time to always remember what Christmas was like at each age. Photographs are great at saving the memories but this year I think we'll also make a holiday keepsake to freeze a moment in time  in a different way.

Clay Casa is San Antonio's largest and oldest Paint Your Own Pottery Studio. They offer mosaics, pottery painting and fused glass. They also offer some of the best birthday parties in San Antonio!

I was browsing pinterest and I'm a sucker for a good handprint craft. I have several different handprint ornaments for our Christmas tree including Micah's first Christmas handprint. Since holidays and family usually also includes food what would be a better handprint craft that a serving dish? (Pss... Grandparents skip this next sentence!) I'm thinking plates in a similar design would make great gifts....

If you are interested in going to create a masterpiece with your family, Clay Casa has a great Family Coupon for you and to share!

Disclosure: Clay Casa invited my family to come and create a holiday keepsake in exchange for this post.

Melissa and Doug Wildlife Rescue Sorting Truck Giveaway!

Have you started Christmas shopping yet? I feel almost on top of things with my list of ideas and my one gift that I have purchased. I usually don't get started until after Thanksgiving. Did you check out the Melissa and Doug Terrific Twenty list yesterday? Did you go enter their 20 days of giveaways on Facebook?

So in an effort to get you started in checking things off your Christmas list and through the generosity of Melissa and Doug I'm giving away a Wildlife Rescue Sorting Truck.  This toy immediately caught my eye for two reasons - my kids love all things animal and Abby is in love with alligators lately and this set includes an alligator. We have several Melissa and Doug puzzles with similar wooden animals so I know this is a good high quality toy to have around your house.

To enter use the rafflecopter below. Leave me a comment with which toy on the list is your favorite and  check the box on rafflecopter that says you did so. Then if you want extra entries you can do any of the other methods you choose! The winner will be randomly selected and emailed next Thursday and will have 48 hours to get back to me or another winner will be selected. Good luck!

insta-lately

  • Abby got her first report card of the year last Friday. She got all E's and Sonic seemed like a good way to celebrate.
  • Saturday, I work in the Church nursery. We only had two toddlers in my class (and 3 teachers - Saturday is hard to plan for because you may have a few or you may have a lot and you certainly don't want to turn away anyone!) While we were in Bible class I could see Lexie having her Bible class through the one way window.

  • Sunday afternoon, we went out to run some errands and ended up spending some time looking at the train. Abby and especially Micah both loved the train.
  • When we got home the neighbors' cat was back on our driveway. Of course the kids were thrilled to pet the kitty.

  • I think I'm in trouble with this girl. She's taken a step up from simply climbing in the baby bouncy seat and standing to using it to climb on the table. I could simply put it away but it's good a keeping her away from the cords that I'm stumped on how to baby proof that are right behind it.
  • Tuesday nights Beau teaches a combat class right before the cycle class I like. So in order for the littles to stay on schedule, have dinner, bath and their normal bedtime routine we do a quick swap  of kids and cars in the gym parking lot. It's a little extra effort but worth it since we no longer have a morning cycle class. (Sadly it's looking like the evening one won't last that much longer with very low attendance)
What have you been up to lately?
