Strawberry picking 2011

This morning we had an a fun outing to go strawberry picking. We went last year and really enjoyed it and were excited to go again this year. This year Gigi came into town to go with us - which was wonderful because watching two kids and finding the ripe berries and helping them not pick the green berries would have been a huge task to do myself!
New rainboots - to not get mud on our new shoes! Despite the fact that we rarely get rain around here ha!
Good thing it wasn't a race because Gigi and Abby were excellent berry pickers - the picked at least twice as many berries as Micah and I. He just kept eating what I picked!
All in all a fabulous morning outing! The weather was perfect, there were no crowds and the kids enjoyed it!

The ice cream truck

Yesterday we were outside (as always lately - what can I say we pink puffy heart love spring!) and Abby and Micah were having a blast coloring the driveway with chalk and were themselves covered in chalk dust from head to toe. Then some familiar music started playing and getting louder... music that my kids didn't really notice because they weren't familiar with it yet. The music stopped at the end of our street giving me a good 3 minutes to debate on if I wanted to introduce my kids to what this music really means. The truck came closer and I decided to go for it. The truck had stopped across the street so we held hands and walked across the street. The kids were super excited to see the pictures of ice cream on the truck.
And of course they were more than happy to pick out a popsicle to enjoy. Dessert before dinner one of life's little joys.
Mmmm.....
The result: two happy, very sticky, chalk covered children.
So at what age is it inappropriate to just strip your kid and hose them off in the yard?

Okay just kidding but they did get wiped down before they came inside because man oh man are popsicles drippy!

Monday ramblings

A couples ago I came across and shirt that I just had to have and ordered immediately. It's perfect and I love it. It came in the mail a couple days ago but I hadn't worn it yet but I tried it on today and now you get a lovely self-portrait of myself in the bathroom mirror. I'm not so good at these! Especially when Micah is trying to brush my teeth while I take the picture ha!
{mom's gonna snap}

Sunday after Church we headed to Grandma & Grandpa's house for lunch and to hang out. The Blockbuster near their house was going out of business so they picked up a DVD of Milo & Otis. You know the movie with the pug and kitty that go on an adventure? She watched most of it while we were there and then Daddy and Abby asked if we could have it to bring home. Of course Abby loved that idea and Grandma gave her the movie. She had to watch it again when we got home while Micah napped. The sweet girl was tired though - and got an idea in her head that she wanted a kitty. She asked me, then she asked Daddy and was so sad when Daddy told her no. I cuddled her while she pouted, whined and even cried a little about wanting a kitty. I'm not a cat person.... but if Daddy hadn't said no I might have been really tempted to make a very unthought out decision.

We headed to the grocery store after Micah woke up from nap (I was thinking I must have lost my mind taking Micah who really dislikes HEB there on a busy Sunday afternoon - but we survived!) Abby was just a big helper and walked/rode holding onto the side and helped me get groceries and put them in the cart. I did think ahead enough to remember to grab my Ergo carrier and wore him through the store and that worked much better than him in the buggy or on my hip and steering one handed! He doesn't always like to be worn anymore but I think he likes the Ergo better than the ring sling (which is what I usually have in my car for quick trips.) Back to the kitty though... while we were getting dog treats and dog food she found a can of cat food and wanted to buy it so we'd have it "when" (her words) she got a kitty. Thankfully she didn't mention the "k" word at all today.

*****
The weather was just gorgeous today. It was perfect spring weather - a little cool but warm enough to really enjoy being outside. I was so sad as I was in the kitchen doing dishes, cooking and cleaning up wishing I could just order in some dinner, hire a maid (or get someone else to cook/clean) and just spend some time playing outside with the kids enjoying the weather. They were outside swinging, sliding and playing while I watched them through the big sliding glass door in the kitchen (which I love how easily I can see them while they are out there) which worked - at least they got to enjoy the weather while I cooked and they were happy playing. So after dinner I decided to push back bath/bedtime and we headed out for a bike ride. I think we have the beginnings of a new routine of evening bike rides! Both kids loved it. Micah wasn't so thrilled with them last year but is loving it this spring.
I love spring! Do ya'll have any fun evening routines? Happy Monday everyone!

Getting to know you and the Y partners party

It's Sunday again so time for you to get to know me :)

1. what inspires you?
Faith, family, other blogs with tons of crafty inspiration

2. what was the last thing you bought yourself?
A sonic coke... if we are talking anything bigger than that some new make-up

3. would you rather watch a movie in a theater or from the comfort of your own home?
Home I think but I do enjoy the theater and the popcorn with "artificial butter oil"

4. household chore you don't mind doing?
Laundry.... until it comes to putting it away but I don't mind the washing/drying of it. I guess that's really only half the chore huh?

5. coffee or tea?
Tea - I don't drink coffee at all. If we are talking sources of caffeine it's coke all the way.

6. what could you eat every day and not get sick of??
Pizza... though then I'd weight a lot more.

7. what's the last book you read?
The Longing by Beverly Lewis

8. do you think you look you "look" your age?
I have no idea?

And because I don't like to post without pictures - we headed out to the gym for a party they were having. It's been Y Partners week to raise money for scholarships and this was the big thank you party. The kids were super excited to see the bounce houses. This was the first time Micah got on a bounce house and liked it. At our friends birthday party he didn't like it, even when he had it to himself. Here he got in with lots more kids and had a blast!

Abby loved to do summersaults in the bounce house - she got up pretty high in the air.

Micah also had his very first hot dog - and liked it. He ate almost the whole thing - but only after bouncing and working up an appetite. Neither one wanted to eat while we were sitting down at the table.
Happy Sunday everyone!

Rock wall

So at our gym we have a rock wall with 4 different climbing options. The first is the purple - the smallest of the 4. Then on the opposite end of the climbing wall is the blue - a medium sized climbing wall. Then in the middle there are two that go all the way to the top.

b4ed057520904ad4b917b0074e0e0ada_7.jpg

Abby has gotten pretty good at the purple over spring break and being able to climb almost every day this week. On Friday she was waiting her turn patiently and when it was her turn the guy who was working the wall (I'm sure they have a proper term for the guy that has the other end of the rope but I don't know it!) asked Abby which wall she wanted to climb. Instead of simply saying 'the purple one' or 'this one' (as she was standing in front of it) she had to very dramatically go through her whole explanation starting with the middle one at the far end. "When I'm 5 I'll climb that one, then when I'm 7 I'll climb the big ones, but I'm 4 right now so I'll climb the purple one" Ha! She has it all planned out. And when I say she has it all planned out I mean neither the gym rules or we gave her ages/rules about when she can climb certain walls. In fact previously she has tried the medium size wall but never got up to the top. In fact only within the past couple weeks has she consistently made it to the top of the purple wall (other times she gets to the middle and decides she is done.) Good to know she has a plan though!

Today though she abandoned her plan. After quickly climbing to the top of the purple and watching a bigger girl - a 7 year old - climb to the top of one of the middle walls she decided she was going to try the middle sized climbing wall. After the gym class (she climbed the purple one before I went to class) she waited her turn and climbed the medium wall. With a little help to get started she was able to climb all the way to the top of it! She looked a little nervous about how high she was when she was starting to come down but oh so proud of herself when she got down!

Park playing

Yesterday we had a follow-up/weight check for Micah and it was in the evening. I didn't want to hit traffic that I knew we would hit on the way there so we left early, went through the last few minutes of Sonic happy hour, and headed to the park that was on the way to the pediatrician's office and we'd miss 90% of the traffic since we were already halfway to the office and past where most of the traffic is. As a bonus this happens to be one of my favorite parks nearby where we live with lots of slides and one of the few that has swings. Both kids took off quickly to play once we got there.
Micah even wore his new, first pair of 'big boy' shoes (aka not the soft leather soles) They had just arrived in the mail and Abby saw the package as we were getting ready to head out, it had to be opened, and they had to be worn! And since Abby was trying on her shoes, Micah had to do the same! As it hasn't rained here I knew there wouldn't be any mud and as a bonus these shoes are machine washable! I think Micah might run faster in his new shoes - if that's possible for his little almost two year old legs.
(Thanks Gigi & Pops the kids love them!)

I did quickly discover the one draw back to this park. The play structure is actually quite large with 11 different slides - and I couldn't always easily see Abby as I ran after Micah in the opposite direction. The park is however mostly fenced in and not near any roads, tucked back past the sports fields and picnic areas.
Micah was a little daredevil and really, really wanted to go down the super tall slide (that Abby is sliding down in the picture above) but I wouldn't let him and kept redirecting him to the smaller slides. All these slides required a real workout on my part to direct him to the slide at the top and hop down the closest ladder to 'catch' him at the bottom. Usually Abby actually will stay with us and will slide down first and wait for Micah but today she ran off to do her own thing and was making all sorts of friends at the park. It was the first time she was really off making friends at the park and wanting to play with the other kids there. She's really growing up and as of right now she doesn't have the shyness of her mother.
Oh and my brilliant idea to play at the park before the dr. appointment to run off the extra energy backfired. Sure it saved us from sitting in traffic but the kids were super energetic and crazy in the dr. office. Can I ask why we need a rolling, spinning stool in the exam room? I was worn out by the time we left!

Micah was up to 19.2 lbs and 31.5 inches tall. Yay for weight gain.... but still not on the chart though he did creep up a little closer. He just might hit 20 lbs by his two year appointment.

Spring cleaning

This afternoon was all about spring cleaning. The bug finally hit me - we've been spending so much time outside enjoying the spring that it was much needed as well. Ha! I (mostly) finished hot spot #2 - the paperwork last week - it's sorted but still sitting out in the office and no pictures were taken. Today I started hot spot #3 - kids clothes. I've had a basket of the kids clothes sitting in my room for weeks now (bad!) When I do the laundry I fold it either downstairs and put it in baskets to go to my room, or fold it in my room - then I put away the towels, Beau's clothes and my clothes. Unfortunately many days that's where it ends and the kids clothes stay in my room.

Today I actually put away a very full basket of kids clothes. As I did that I went through their drawers - dumping them all, refolding and putting them away, taking out anything that was too small and anything that was winter-y that was still lingering around. The winter clothes got folded into one drawer to wait and see what size the kids are in come winter. Then everything else got folded and put back in the right drawer or hung in the closet. There wasn't too much that wasn't the right size and I did a big purge of Abby's clothes not that long ago and Micah is still wearing the same size as last summer. (I'm thinking by the time he outgrows this size he'll have nothing really left to save or hand down since he's been in this size so long and everything will be much more worn!)

I got so involved in working in Abby's room going through the clothes as also picking up her toys that I didn't realize how much time had passed until Micah started getting really upset and seemed hungry. I looked at my phone and saw that it was already almost 6:30 - past dinner time. Mom fail - especially since I hadn't even thought about dinner at all thinking it was still earlier in the afternoon than that. We ended up doing a quick pb&j with strawberries, yogurt and goldfish since they were already hungry!

I was so feeling the spring cleaning vibe that I ended up taking 90% of the pictures ect on my bulletin board that is in the kitchen down while the kids ate as most of those have been up there a while. Now I need new pictures to put on it!

We did take a little bit of time outside after nap time and drove the mini down to the mailbox. I knew that there was going to be a little something for the kids in the mail but I didn't know that all the mail (besides the Wed ad pages) was going to be for the kids! They get more "good" mail than I do!

Gigi sent Abby an Easter dress and it matches perfectly with the shirt I picked up for Micah to wear with his khaki's. Now I'm really excited to take pictures in the Bluebonnets! They are going to look so adorable for Easter!

Abby had gotten a second letter from Grandpa in the mail and she so loves her letters! I have to read each of them several times until she can recite the whole thing from memory! She wanted to write Grandpa a letter back so while I was putting away laundry I helped her write a letter. She even drew a cute little picture. Then towards the end she decided to start writing "words" herself....
Happy Wednesday everyone! Now I've got to get in bed as I'm planning on hitting cycling tomorrow before our playdate.... as if my legs aren't already killing me from pump and combat already this week! But bathing suit weather is so close!

Bikes, minis and a night out for mom

So a little over a week ago Abby started asking to try to learn to ride her bike without training wheels. I'm all for helping her but Micah isn't so much for being strapped in while we are outside - I don't blame him playing outside is a lot more fun than having to sit in a stroller and watch - so I haven't been able to help her. Daddy has had the past two days off and Abby finally got her wish to try her bike sans training wheels. She's done okay - she's not ready to take off on her own yet but she's starting to put together how it works. She's not into spending too much time learning though both bike sessions put together have been maybe 15 minutes total.
While sister is off riding her bike with Daddy, Micah's had the mini all to himself to pretend to drive (no actual driving until he is tall enough to reach the pedal!)
This evening I got to go out and having dinner with my mentoring moms group at our wonderful mentor's house. It was so nice and refreshing to take time to recharge our mommy tanks by having a night out to just sit and chat. We missed the ladies that couldn't be there though!

Just a quick post today - we've been busy with getting back into our routine after a relaxing spring break last week. Abby's happy to be back in preschool this week but also tired from it. Micah surprisingly had a rough time in Bible class today - which he is usually okay and he was there Saturday (with only a few tears) and Sunday (with no tears) - but today he saw me on the playground with my class and after that he was done and ended up coming down to my class for the rest of the day. He was wonderfully behaved once he was with mommy though - and even really helped clean up the classroom!

Getting to know you & weekend ramblings

I had found this blog link up a while back but then it went on a hiatus and I'm excited it's back. I blog a lot about my kids & whatever adventure or activity we happen to be doing but don't say much about myself so this is an easy way to do that so here goes:
gtky1.jpg

1. If you won the title of miss america, what would your platform be?
Hmmm... I really have no idea? World Peace? Ha!
2. Outdoorsy or indoorsy?
That entirely depends on where that outdoors is... if it's the beach yes totally outdoorsey. If you want me to go camping in the woods in a tent with no facilities then no thanks. Lately we've been very much about the outdoors around here spending every last minute we can outside enjoying the springtime weather before it gets super hot (and then we'll just switch the pool!)
3. Pajama's out in public..classy or tres tacky?
Pajamas in public? No thanks. I'll rock jeans & a t-shirt or gym wear but never pajamas.
4. What's your favorite room in your house?
I guess probably the master bedroom. It's got my favorite rocking chair and where I spend my downtime after the kids go to sleep.
5. Nook, kindle, or book?
I love the idea of then nook/kindle/ipad - especially the ease it would bring to reading in bed because I often have trouble getting comfortable reading a book in bed & turning the pages but I just can't give up the real deal yet.
6. Would you rather wear the same outfit for a week or not brush your teeth for a week?
Definitely the outfit for a week.
7. What's your favorite blog at the moment?
I love Kelle Hampton's blog Enjoying the Small Things - I'm slightly jealous of them living so near the beach.
8. Lately i've been daydreaming about.........?
Hmm... this evening -  a maid as I cleaned the kitchen, living room and folded laundry. Ha!

And now back to to the kids and our weekend! We've had a pretty laid back weekend after the previous two busy weekends and yet I still somehow feel worn out this evening? Why is that?

Almost every Saturday evening I work in the Church nursery during the evening service ( in the 3-12 month room getting my baby fix!) Grandma and Grandpa sometimes go to this service and sometimes go to Sunday morning (when I go) so we called Grandma to see which one she was going to go to because Abby really wanted to say hi. She decided to come yesterday evening and after the service she took us out to dinner. We went to Willie's which I have to say now ranks pretty high up as far as my favorite restaurants go. It was beautiful outside and we got a table near the big huge sandbox. The immediately took their shoes off and headed in only getting out to eat then right back in. It thankfully wasn't too busy at the restaurant and we stayed there sitting, chatting and enjoying the evening for 2 hours while the kids played. It was a little piece of heaven to just sit and relax and the kids enjoyed every second of it.

Can you see little Micah? Doesn't he just look adorable in his button down & plaid shorts? I think so!
But the poor baby looks like he lost a fight. :( He got a bruise earlier in the week on his cheek (from where I don't know?) Then yesterday morning as we played outside, he was playing in some leaves piling them up and when he turned out to run after Abby I saw a big new scratch on that same cheek. He never made a peep about it either just kept playing.
Abby spent quite a bit of time filling then dumping a bucket of sand. She was quite serious about this task as well then put on her cheesy smile when she saw I was taking her picture. It was so sweet to see her jumping in and playing with the other kids in the sandbox - she was making friends and playing games with them.
Micah has been working so hard on trying to figure out how to jump lately. He just can't quite get both feet up at the same time yet. However he saw Abby jumping into the sandbox and he just had to try it. It was so cute and sweet to watch him trying his hardest to figure out how to get both feet to jump together. He's so close to getting it! The smile on his face about his jump was precious though!
I hope ya'll have had a wonderful weekend as well! We've had a great spring break this week - it's going to be a jump back into reality for us to get up and get Abby to school tomorrow! When Beau told her she goes back to school tomorrow she was so excited though jumping up and down about it! Only in preschool (and maybe kinder) does school come with that much enthusiasm huh?

the simple things

Micah climbed into bed, covered himself up and initiated a game a game of peek-a-boo before nap time yesterday. It makes me smile to see him being silly and wanting to play games!

What simple moment made you smile this week? You can link up or see others here:

Project 52: Week 11

{light and dark}
The 'super moon' tonight. My first time doing a 'shoot the moon' - especially using full manual mode - settings 1/100, f 11, ISO 200. This however would have been a lot better if I had a lens with a zoom of any kind. That's next on my camera must haves - the problem is the one I really want isn't cheap. This picture is actually cropped in a quite a bit already - which is why the moon looks blurry - a zoom would have really helped this!

I'm excited to share our evening tonight as wee had a lot of fun but it's late & I'm tired so you'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Rainbow shaving cream painting

We made bathtime fun tonight with some rainbow colored shaving cream. We didn't get to our rainbow art project today though - spent it enjoying the nice weather outside instead.
The violet actually looked a whole lot better after a better mixing that it does in this first picture.

So far Micah is pretty good at the colors yellow and blue - he can say them at least - and find them about 50% of the time.

Abby's rainbow
idea from Meet the Dubiens

Micah's molars are giving us a rough time. I can see the bottom ones trying to break through now - thus explaining his bad sleeping habits this past week. I really need to remember to look at the store for some sort of teething tablet! I keep forgetting while we are at the store. Now if only I could also figure out where he other two bottom front teeth are as they are still missing....
