I love planning my kids birthday parties. My son's birthday is coming up in 2 months and I've already been planning his for over a month now (mostly gathering ideas but still planning) and I already have some favors and plans in mind for my daughters party 5 months from now. Last year was the first year we had 'friends' parties for either child - it was Abby's 4th birthday and Micah's 1st. As we are on a budget we did a lot of things homemade but that doesn't mean it can't be cute and creative!
I made Abby's invitations with my Silhouette cutter. I love these invites - they are little paper dolls in an inter-tube! We had her party at Grandma and Grandpa's neighborhood pool since it was summer time and very hot!
The favors were sand pails I found for $1 a piece at Michaels and filled with a splash bomb pool toy, salt water taffy, and a sugar cookie.
I made her cake (from scratch) and the cookies that I decorated it with. The buttercream icing was the best part! I might not make her cake from scratch this year but I will totally use this icing again!
I also made her a birthday banner with the silhouette and bright, colorful scrapbook paper.
Micah's 1st birthday party was at our house and had an airplane theme. Oh I had so much fun with this! I made him a little smash cake and cupcakes and airplane cookies for everyone else.
I had an "airplane" food meal packed up for all the kids with an airplane pb&j sandwich and a bag of chips. For the adults we had turkey sandwiches on yummy baguette bread and chips.
I hung 'clouds' and airplanes from the ceiling for a little decoration.
And of course he had a banner as well.
For the favors I cut some cereal boxes into 'suitcases' and filled them with a small toy wooden airplane, a couple foam gliders and bubbles. (Clouds, airplanes and bubbles were all ordered from Oriental trading - which I love for favors and party supplies!)
The birthday boy in his 'one' shirt! (Goodness he's gotten so much bigger since then... well at least looks bigger as he hasn't gained much weight since then) Shirt is from my friend's etsy shop Olive and Ollie.
For a game Beau measured out some points in the yard and we flew the gliders off the porch to see who could fly theirs furthest.
I've linked up with Kelly at Kelly's Korner - if you want to see more creative kid parties head on over!
